Herrenberg Slate Quarry Visitor Mine

The historic Herrenberg Slate Quarry offers visitors insight into the miner's work and opens up the world of fossils from prehistoric times.

Shiny gold pyrites in the walls and stalactites that have formed on the ridges captivate with their unadulterated beauty and naturalness. Hand-dug tunnels and mines bear witness to medieval mining skills, and old documents tell of prospecting in the 16th century. The show mine was uncovered and made accessible in 1975 by the Fossil Friends Association (Verein für Fossilienfreunde) .
